Auto Safety · Official NHTSA Data
Check for open safety recalls on any US vehicle using live data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Free, instant, and no signup — recall repairs are always free from the manufacturer.
A safety recall is issued when a vehicle or part doesn’t meet federal safety standards or has a defect that creates a safety risk. The manufacturer — or NHTSA — initiates the recall, and owners are notified by mail.
If your vehicle is affected, contact any franchised dealer for that brand to schedule the free repair. You don’t need to have bought the car there. Keep proof of the repair for your records.
For the most accurate result, use your 17-character VIN (found on the dashboard by the windshield or inside the driver’s door jamb) at the official NHTSA recalls site.
