Running Pace Calculator converts between pace per mile, pace per km, and speed in mph/kph, and calculates race finish times for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon from your input pace or distance and goal time.
Convert any running pace to speed, calculate finish times for every race distance, and find your optimal treadmill speed.
Pace-to-time: finish time = pace (sec/mile) × distance (miles). Time-to-pace: pace = total seconds / distance miles. Speed conversions: mph = 3600 / pace_secs_per_mile; kph = mph × 1.60934. Pace/km = pace_per_mile / 1.60934. Race distances used: 5K = 3.10686 miles, 10K = 6.21371 miles, half marathon = 13.1094 miles, marathon = 26.2188 miles. Results are estimates; actual race performance depends on course elevation, weather, and pacing strategy.
Running pace = total time ÷ distance. For example, if you run 3 miles in 27 minutes, your pace is 9:00 per mile. In km: pace = total minutes ÷ km.
A comfortable beginner pace is typically 10:00–12:00 per mile (6:12–7:27 per km). You should be able to hold a conversation. As fitness improves, pace naturally quickens.
A 4-hour marathon requires a 9:09 per mile pace (5:41 per km). A 3:30 marathon needs 8:01/mile. A 3:00 marathon needs 6:52/mile.
Pace per mile = 60 ÷ mph. At 6 mph, your pace is 10:00/mile. At 8 mph, it's 7:30/mile. Treadmill speeds directly translate: set the treadmill to your calculated mph.
